Mealworms are an amazing source of protein, commonly used to supplement the diet of backyard poultry. They are also safe and delicious for humans to eat!
They are the larval stage of the Tenebrionidae beetle (darkling beetle), and though they can be expensive to buy, farming these critters at home is relatively easy and cost effective once you know how.
During this workshop, you will learn how to create a Mealworm farm from scratch. You will get insight into the biology of these insects so that you can maximise production. Finally, you will discover how the waste product of your farm (known as frass) can be used in an array of ways to fertilise your garden!
For those who are keen, there will be samples to taste at the workshop - no pressure :-) All participants will also take home a sample of frass for their garden and a summarised fact sheet for future reference.
Light refreshments will be available throughout the workshop.
